Mitochondria are responsible for removing about 50% of total energy from the food we eat. Therefore not surprising to find the highest concentrations of CoQ10 in those organs that have a higher energy needs, such as heart muscle and liver and in those tissues that regenerate quickly such as the gums.
Has been associated with lack of CoQ10 gum disorders. Similarly it has been demonstrated that the affected heart and obese people tend to have low levels of CoQ10.
CoQ10 is found in food, especially in the viscera, but cooking and processing methods tend to destroy and although the organism can produce, this production decreases with age. In fact, a lack of energy in older people may, in part, be related to decreased production of CoQ10 in the body.
