The vitreous body is a highly hydrated, transparent, gelatinous matrix that fills the interior of the eyeball and helps maintain its structure. Its main component is hyaluronic acid. Collagen fibers are another notable element in its composition. Vitamin C helps protect cells from oxidative damage, as does vitamin E.
