Nature's Plus Dong Quai 60 capsules. ANGELICA O DONG QUAI (Angelica sinensis): Traditionally, it is considered that dong quai has a balancing effect or "adaptogenic" on the female hormonal system. Despite what some authors, dong quai does not appear to be a phytoestrogen or have hormonal effects in the body. This conclusion was reached in part by a double-blind study in which postmenopausal women revealed no estrogenic activity of this plant. In traditional Chinese medicine, dong quai is rarely used alone and is usually combined with herbs such as peony and Ligusticum for symptoms of menopause and menstrual cramps
